Initial Wyoming Teaching Certification:
The Initial Wyoming Teaching Certification is valid for 5 years and is renewable.
If you already hold a college degree or are thinking of earning your degree in education, the following are the requirements and steps to be taken in order to qualify for an Initial Wyoming Teacher Certification.
Requirements are guidelines and subject to change. To make sure all requirements are fulfilled properly, contact your Teacher Education Institution's certification officer.

- Wyoming Initial Teaching Certification
- Step 1:Request information from accredited institutions regarding Bachelor's, Master's and PhD programs. Teacher Preparation Programs.
- Step 2:You will need to download and complete the Wyoming Initial Certification Application.
- Step 3:Send part III of your application to your teacher education program's certification officer to complete the Institutional Recommendation part of the application.
The certification officer should complete the correct part of the application, place the college seal on the page and return the form to the applicant. -
Step 4:Send part IV of your application to Wyoming School Board Chair to complete the Verification of Experience (if applicable).
- Step 5:Submit Official Transcripts with your application when you send it to the Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board.

Step 6:You will need to either complete a course on the U.S. Constitution and the Wyoming Constitution, OR,
You will need to pass tests on both Constitutions. -
Step 7:You will need to pass certain Praxis competency examinations provided by the Educational Testing Service.

Step 8:You will need to request a Fingerprint Packet from the Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board.

Step 9:You will need to provide an application processing fee of $145 by check or money order made payable to the "Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board"

Through the traditional route to certification, a credential is issued to an applicant who has completed a Wyoming teacher certification program.

- Wyoming Alternative Teaching Certification
Wyoming recongnizes multiple avenues to alternative teacher certification. All require the applicant have at least a Bachelor's degree.
Montana University offers an online program to alternative certification.
The program is called the Northern Plains Transition to Teaching and requires the applicant to first gain employment in a Wyoming school district prior to admission. More information can be found at the Montana State University website at www.montana.edu/nptt
Wyoming also offers temporary permits for shortage teaching areas in desperate Wyoming school districts. These permits are valid for 1 year and may be renewed 3 times. During this time, the applicant is expected to complete a teacher education program and qualify for the Initial Wyoming Teaching Certificate.
