Teacher Licensure Reciprocity in West Virginia:
West Virginia Reciprocity Information
If you are coming from another state and wish to acquire your West Virginia Teaching Certification through reciprocity agreements, you may be able to do so if you either have completed an approved and accredited teacher education program from another state, or, currently hold a valid teaching certification from another state. The following are requirements and steps to attain your West Virginia Teaching Certification through reciprocity agreements.

Step 1:You will need to download and complete the Initial West Virginia Teaching Certification application (Form 20-T) .

Step 2:Provide appropriate fees ($34 for background check and $15 for each for accompanying your information sheet, form 20-T) by check or money order
Make payable to the "West Virginia Deparment of Education" -
Step 3:You will need to send a front and back copy of your Valid OUt-of-State Teaching Certificate.

Step 4:Obtain Fingerprint cards by request by emailing this address : stmward@access.k12.wv.us
Complete and submit Fingerprint cards with your materials along with a background information release form (Form 7) found on the West Virginia Department of Education website. - Step 5:Submit a copy of your Professional Teacher Assessment scores with your application.
You will either need to pass the Praxis I and the Praxis II subject exams or file for exemption.

Step 6:Request Official Transcripts for all coursework you have completed and submit these unopened envelopes along with your application (copies will not be accepted).

Step 7:Submit a Recommendation for Certification Form (Form 4-B).
This form should be completed by your supervisor from your previous teaching job or previous other employment. -
Step 8:Sit Back and Relax!
