Initial Vermont Teaching Certification:
Vermont's Initial Teaching Certification is also referred to as the Level I Teaching Certification.
The level I certificate is valid for 3 years and is renewable.
The following are requirements and steps to be taken in order for you to apply for your Vermont Initial Teacher Certification or Vermont Level I teaching certificate.

- Vermont Level 1 Teaching Certification
- Step 1:Request information from accredited institutions regarding Bachelor's, Master's and PhD programs. Teacher Preparation Programs.
- Step 2:You will need to download and complete the Initial Vermont Teaching Certification application.
- Step 3:Complete the attached "Oath" and have notarized.

Step 4:Have a current resume of your previous work experience and educational history attached with your application packet.
- Step 5:Complete the Child Support, Tax and UCC Statement (complete regardless of whether you have children or not)

Step 6:Provide a copy of your Praxis I and Praxis II test scores. Find out what scores are expected of you for your subject endorsement(s) from the Vermont Department of Education Website.

Step 7:Provide Official Transcripts of all previously completed coursework. Copies will not be completed. Attached unopened, sealed envelopes included within your application packet.

Step 8:Complete a Criminal Record Check.
Either complete the Livescan Fingerprint Check and enclose the receipt within your application packet or go to your local police department and obtain "FD-258" fingerprint cards to be sent back to the Vermont Department of Education.
Attach a check or money order in the amount of $24 made payable to the "Vermont Department of Public Safety" -
Step 9:Provide the Vermont Level I Certification application processing fee of $140 in the form of check or money order made payable to the "Vermont Deparment of Education - Licensing Office"

Step 10:Sit Back and Relax!
The Level 1 Teaching Certification is the credential issued to applicants who have completed a Vermont teacher certification program.

- Vermont Alternative Teaching Certification
The alternative certification option in Vermont allows the teacher candidate to enter the classroom prior to the completion of a teacher education program.
The Vermont alternative licensing program is also referred to as the "Licensed by Evaluation" process or the "Vermont Peer Review"
