Utah Certification Renewal:

If you have the initial Utah teaching certification, level 1, you will need to apply for the level 2 teaching certification after you have completed 3 years of teaching under the level 1 certification. Level 1 renewal will not be granted after 3 years of teaching experience has been had.

The following are requirements for changing certification levels and renewing your certification.
  • Moving from a level 1 to level 2 certification:

    You must have 3 years of successful teaching experience.

    Successfully complete the Entry Years Enhancement (EYE).

    Acquire a recommendation from your employing school district for certification advancement.

    Provide a processing fee of $60 by check or money order made payable to the "Utah State Office of Education"

    The level 2 Utah certification is valid for 5 years.

  • Renewing a Level 2 Certification:

    Successfully teach for at least 3 years of last 5 years.

    Complete 100 Professional Development Points over the last 5 years.

  • Advancing a Level 2 to a Level 3 certification:

    The Level 3 teaching certification is valid for 7 years.

    In order to advance your certificate, you must acquire either a National Board Certification or a Doctorate degree in a field related to the subject you teach.

    This certification may be renewed.

  • Renewing a Level 3 teaching certification:
    Successfully teach for at least 3 years of last 7 years.

    Complete 100 Professional Development Points over the last 7 years.
