Rhode Island Teacher Certification Reciprocity:
Rhode Island has signed an interstate agreement with other states called the Interstate Certification Compact or ICC. This agreement allows for teachers and teacher candidates who have completed teacher education programs to easily begin teaching in Rhode Island. The newly adopted avenue to certification is called "Enhanced Reciprocity".

The following are a list of requirements an out-of-state teacher, or someone who has completed their teacher preparation out-of-state, must satisfy before being qualified to apply for a Rhode Island teaching certification.

You must fulfull Rhode Island's basic competency exam requirements that are explained under the Rhode Island Initial Certification page.
- You must have at least a baccalaureate degree.
- Complete a teacher preparation program.

Complete the Application Packet.
Pay appropriate fees by money order or personal check made payable to the "General Treasurer - State of Rhode Island"
Document your Teaching Experience as well as provide a copy of your valid teaching certification.
However, you do not need to provide a copy of your certification if you have completed your teacher education within the last 5 years from member state of the Interstate Certification Compact.
