Steps to renewing your certification

  • Pennsylvania Teacher Certification Renewal

  • If you were certified under the Intern Certification, your certification is valid for 3 years and is not renewable. You will need to have completed your teacher education program during these three years and have applied for an Instructional I Certificate.

The Instructional I certificate is not renewable either. This certification is valid for 6 years of service. During this time, the teacher is expected to complete all requirements and professional development courses needed to earn your Instructional II Certification.

    • You will need to complete an induction program before applying for a Pennsylvania Instructional II Teacher Certification.
    • You will need to complete 24 semester credits from an accredited institution. Distance Education credits are acceptable from accredited providers of distance education.
    • Requirements for professional development will also be printed on the reverse side of your Pennsylvania Teaching Certificate.
