Steps to becoming a teacher in Pennsylvania:
Pennsylvania has signed an interstate agreement with 45 other states. This agreement allows for teachers and teacher candidates who have completed teacher education programs to easily begin teaching in Pennsylvania.
The following are a list of requirements an out-of-state teacher, or someone who has completed their teacher preparation out-of-state, must satisfy before being qualified to apply for a Pennsylvania teaching certification.
The following are a list of requirements an out-of-state teacher, or someone who has completed their teacher preparation out-of-state, must satisfy before being qualified to apply for a Pennsylvania teaching certification.
- Pennsylvania Teacher Certification Requirements:
- You must fulfull Pennsylvania's basic and subject competency examinations through the Education Testing Service.
- However, if you have been issued a certificate from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, you are exempt from teacher competency exams and will be issued the Instructional II certification.
- You must have at least a baccalaureate degree.
- Complete a teacher preparation program.

Complete the Application Form PDE 338 G
Have your teacher education university complete an education verification Form PDE 338 A
Send Official Transcripts along with your application
Send a copy of your valid Educator Certification.
Attach a Money Order of $80 made payable to "Commonwealth of Pennsylvania"
