Steps to becoming a teacher in Oklahoma: A college degree is required to become a teacher in Oklahoma. In order to qualify for the Oklahoma Initial Teaching License, you must have also completed an Oklahoma teacher certification program. However, with Oklahoma's Alternative Teacher Certification Program, you may be eligible to enter the classroom prior to the completion of a teacher preparation program.
The Oklahoma Initial Teaching License is the credential issued to applicants who have not taught before and have completed an Oklahoma teacher certification program.
