North Carolina Teacher Reciprocity:

  • Receiving a North Carolina Teaching Certification

  • If you are currently residing in another state and have completed a teacher preparation program, you may be eligible for a North Carolina Teacher Certification.

    The following are requirements and steps to be taken in order to apply for a North Carolina Teacher Certification through reciprocity agreements.

    • Step 1:
      Pass teacher competency examinations:
      • Praxis I and Praxis II
      • Gather information from the ETS Website.

    • Step 2:
      Complete the North Carolina Initial Teacher Certification Application: Application Packet

    • Step 3:
      Submit Official Transcripts of all college credits you've received.

    • Step 4:
      Include a front and back copy of your valid teaching license.

    • Step 5:
      Have your employing school district complete a Verification of Experience Form (Form E). This form can be found within the initial application packet.

    • Step 6:

    • You will need to include an $85 processing fee and a $55 fee for Verification of Experience (Form E) processing by check or money-order made payable to the "Department of Public Instruction"
