- Receiving a New Jersey Teaching Certification

Receiving your CEAS:

You must have passing Praxis II scores sent directly from the ETS.

Have completed an approved teacher preparation program. Have official transcripts sent directory from you program's institution to the NJDOE

Have your institution complete a program Verification Form. You may download the New Jersey Program Verification Form for reciprocity here.

You will need to complete your application online.

You will need to pay you certification fees either online by credit card or through mail by certified check or money order made payable to the "Commissioner of Education"

After successful processing of your application, you will be awarded a CEAS and a New Jersey Provisional Teaching Certification.
- You will then need to enroll in a teacher induction/mentoring program and complete one year of successful teaching before you will be eligible for a New Jersey Standard Teaching Certification.

Receiving your Standard Certification:You can apply for a New Jersey Standard Certification if you have successfully completed at least one year of teaching experience under a valid out-of-state teaching certification.
The following are requirements for applying for a Standard Certification:- You will need to have official transcripts of all college credits sent directly from you college(s) to the New Jersey Department of Education
- You must have passed the appropriate subject assessments through the Praxis II series exams. Scores must be sent directly from the ETS.
- Send copies (front and back) of your valid out-of-state teaching credentials.
- Have original documentation of your teaching experience sent directly to the NJDOE.
- You may apply online or through regular mail.
If you are currently residing in another state and have completed a teacher preparation program, there are two main options you have for receiving a New Jersey Teacher Certification.
If you do not have at least one year of teaching experience, apply for a Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS). If you can verify at least one year of teaching experience, apply for a Standard New Jersey Certification.
If you do not have at least one year of teaching experience, apply for a Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS). If you can verify at least one year of teaching experience, apply for a Standard New Jersey Certification.
