Steps to becoming a teacher in Nebraska:
- Receiving a regular Nebraska Teaching Certification
- Complete the Nebraska Application Form.
- Pay Required Fees. You will need to also request 2 fingerprint cards from the Nebraska Department of Education. A $40 fee will need to accompany regular application fees.
- Forward official transcripts to NDE.
- Provide a photocopy of your valid out-of-state teacher certification.
- Complete Basic Skills Competency Tests
- Verify other requirements by thoroughly examining the Nebraska Certification Manual and calling the Teacher Certification Office for further questions.
- 2-Year Provisional Nebraska Teaching Certification
- Download and complete the applicable sections of the Nebraska Certification Manual (Two-Year Affidavit Form).
- Provide a photocopy of a valid, regular teaching certification.
- 2-Year Temporary Nebraska Certification

If you have a regular teaching certification from Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, Oklahoma, South Dakota or Wisconsin, AND you have not passed the Basic Skills Competency Tests required by Nebraska, you may be eligible for a 2-Year Provisional Certificate. You will have to complete the following.
If you are unable to satisfy the Human Relations Training Requirements, yet still hold a valid certification from another state, you may be eligible for a Temporary Nebraska Certification.
