Renewing your Maine Teacher Certification:
The following are requirements and information for Maine teacher certification renewal and advancement:
- Provisional Maine Certification Renewal or Advancement:
New Maine Educators are originally awarded a 2-year Provisional Certification.
During these two years, the new teacher will work with a mentor and must complete a Teacher Action Plan.
Upon successful completion of the appropriate requirements, the new teacher will be awarded a recommendation from the local Maine Certification Support Team to advance to the next certification level, the 5-year Renewable Maine Professional Teacher Certification.
In order to Renew your 5-year Professional Certification, you will need to successfully complete a 5-year Maine Teacher Action Plan and 6 semester hours of coursework or the equivalent of professional development units.
You may also advance you certification and increase you Maine Teacher Salary by earning your Master's degree or Doctorate degree.
