Renewing your Louisiana certification:
The following are requirements and information for Louisiana teacher certification renewal and advancement:
- Level 1, 2 or 3 Louisiana Certification Renewal or Advancement:
If you have a level 1 Louisiana Teaching Certification, you can either keep the certificate valid by requesting a one-time renewal for three years, or you may apply for a certification advancement to a level 2 or 3 certification.
In order to advance your level 1 certification to a level 2, you will need to pass the Louisiana Assistance and Assessment Program and teach for at least 3 years.
In order to advance your certification from level 1 or 2 to a level 3 Louisiana Certification, you will need to pass the Louisiana Assistance and Assessment Program, teach for at least 5 years and complete an approved Master's Degree program.
A level 2 and 3 Louisiana Teaching Certificate must be renewed every 5 years by completing 150 continuing level units.
