Steps to renewing your certification
- Iowa Teacher Certification Renewal

Fill out Form #1 from the Initial Certification Renewal Application

Provide verification of the completion of an approved Mandatory Child and Dependent Adult Abuse Training

Provide evidence of 2 years of teaching experience

Fill out Form #1 from the Convert Initial to Standard Certification Application.
-
Have an administrator fill out Form #2 section II
-
Earn 6 semester hour credits every 5 years
-
Provide verification of the completion of an approved Mandatory Child and Dependent Adult Abuse Training

Fill out Form #1 from the "Renew a Standard License" Application.

Include Official Transcripts for the courses completed over last 5 years and after the date of the issuance of your current Standard Certification.

Submit transcripts for the completion of a Master's degree program.

Submit verification of 5 years teaching experience

Complete Form #1 and have an administrator complete Form #2 Section II. Download Form.

Complete 4 credits every 5 years.

Provide verification of the completion of an approved Mandatory Child and Dependent Adult Abuse Training

Fill out Form #1 from the Master Educator License Renewal Application

Send Official Transcripts for completed credits.

The following are the procedures for Renewing your Iowa Teacher Certification .
Iowa Initial Certification Renewal:
The Iowa Initial Certification is valid for 2 years and may be renewed twice. A letter from your employing school district verifying your employment is necessary for your second renewal. The Initial Certification may only be renewed if the applicant does not have two years of teaching experience.
Converting Initial to Standard Certification:
Iowa Standard Certification Renewal:
The Iowa Standard Certification is valid for 5 years. The following are the requirements to renew your Standard License.
Converting a Standard to Master Educator License:
You must obtain a Master's degree in order to be qualified to apply for the Iowa Master Educator License. You must also have 5 years of teaching experience.
Iowa Master Educator License Renewal:
The Iowa Master Educator License is valid for 5 years. You may renew the Master educator license indefinately.
