Hawaii Initial Teacher Certification:
The following steps must be taken and successfully completed for you to be eligible for Hawaii's Initial Teaching Cerification.
- Hawaii's Traditional Route to Certification
- Step 1:You must have completed a teacher preparation program from an accredited institution. Hawaii Teacher Preparation Programs.
Or request information from an accredited campus based university:
University of Phoenix Campus offers fully accredited certification programs in three locations across the Islands of Hawaii. -
Step 2:You will need to pass the following examinations:

The Pre Professional Skills Test (PPST)

The Principles of Learning and Teaching (PLT)
-
The Praxis II Content Exams

Step 3:
-
Step 4:Request Original Transcripts for all college credits you have received.
You will need to include official transcripts in your application packet or have your teacher education institution send official transcripts directly to HTSB. -
Step 5:Include a processing fee of $240 by check or money order made payable to the "Hawaii Teacher Standards Board"
Do not send check with application. -
Step 6:Sit Back and Relax!
All certified teachers in Hawaii must possess a minimum of a Bachelor's degree. Follow the steps to apply for your Initial HI Teaching License:
