Steps to renewing your certification:
- Initial Educator Certification Renewal

Download the renewal application ED 183, Here.

Include a non-refundable application fee in the form of check or money order made payable to the Treasurer, State of Connecticut.
- Provisional Educator Certificate
- Professional Educator Certificate and Renewal
- To qualify for a Professional Educator Certificate, the candidate must complete at least 30 months of teaching under the Provisional Educator Certificate, AND complete any required coursework that has been deemed necessary.
- To Renew a Professional Educator Certificate, the candidate will have to complete 9 Continuing Education Units during the 5 year duration of the Professional Educator Certificate.
The Connecticut Initial Teacher Certification is valid for 3 years and may be renewed if you do not teach at least 10 months under an your Initial Educator Certification or you have not complete the BEST program.

If you have completed 10 months of successful teaching under the Initial Educator Certificate, the Interim Educator Certificate or Durational Shortage Area Permit, AND have completed the BEST program, you are qualified to apply for the Provisional Educator Certificate. OR you may also be qualified if you have completed 30 months of successful teaching experience.
* The Provisional Educator Certificate is valid for 8 years.
The Professional Educator Certificate is Valid for 5 years.
