No matter what subject or grade level we teach, we are all infusing our beliefs and opinions into our curriculum. This is not a bad thing. We are not purposely brainwashing our students to think as we do. This is simply the operation of a teacher who wishes to see all of his or her students succeed in this world. However, as we all have experienced, the opening of our hearts and minds are regularly spit back into our faces either by students, parents, administration or even fellow teachers. Sometimes it takes all we have to go on fighting and teaching to the best of our ability.
Sometimes it simply takes the knowledge that we are not alone in our trials and tribulations. The mere understanding that others have experienced similar difficulties with students, bureaucratic issues, parents and coworkers can be enough to help that teacher through the day. This is what good friends do for each other. Good friends give us support and perspective when the ordinary burdens of everyday life seem to be distorting our views of the world and ourselves.
We encourage this website to be a place where we can share our stories and help give strength to our fellow educators. So, if you have a story you wish to tell, happy, sad or anywhere in between, please tell it. Help other teachers understand they are not alone.
